It was the DHTML application. Microsoft launched it when they released the fourth version of IE ( Internet Explorer ) in 1997.

The components of  Dynamic HTML DHTML is composed of four parts or languages: HTML 4.0 CSS JavaScript DOM

HTML 4.0 HTML can be a client-side markup language that is a fundamental element of DHTML. It is the basis for structuring the web page using various identified essential elements or tags.

CSS - Cascading style sheets. Control text color, the appearance of fonts and space between the paragraphs in which pictures or backgrounds are being used, layout styles and display.

JavaScript was initially known in the beginning as Live Script, but Netscape changed its name to JavaScript, perhaps because of the excitement created by Java.

JavaScript can even be considered a scripting language executed on the client-side. Different browsers support JavaScript technology.
